The town of Wiehl decided to convert its Bürgerpark into a family-friendly adventure park and needed a replacement bridge over the river as part of the redesign. The special challenge here: an adventure bridge that connects the existing playground with the new one and allows for fun and games all day long.
A project over water
The aim was to connect two playgrounds and thus complete the conversion of the Bürgerpark. After a total project duration of 6 months, the bridge, which of course fulfills all safety-relevant requirements according to DIN1176-1 for leisure equipment, was ceremoniously put into operation. As with every project, there were special challenges beforehand - including the loads, the bridge's course over water and the tension.
Load transfer, V-shape and frame
Solution 1:
The large loads of 16 tons had to be cleverly diverted: This could be achieved via tension struts leading from the outer towers to the rear.
Solution 2:
As the bridge runs over water, it is imperative that it is completely enclosed. For this reason, it was designed as a V-shaped tunnel.
Solution 3:
The integrated tensioning device in the tunnel frame allows the elongation of the cables to be adjusted, i.e. minimized or increased, and tolerances to be compensated for.
A tailor-made structure
This project was to have another special feature: assembly as a complete product. Conversely, this meant an installation with millimeter precision, which in turn required high-precision planning and implementation. In the end, the entire system was delivered as a whole and installed within a few days. And not in the ground, as is often the case, but with dowels on the foundation. This created a major advantage: the adventure tunnel can be easily dismantled at any time and reassembled elsewhere.
Competence and cooperation
The structural engineering and foundations were carried out by a long-standing partner - the project management remained in the hands of HUCK Seiltechnik. This allowed us to act as a perfect interface and for everyone involved in the project to contribute their full expertise. In the end, everyone benefited from this solution and the customer experienced a professional and pleasant project phase.
A one-off with a future
Every bridge and every tunnel is unique - anyone who relies on a modular system is building for the future. Thanks to this system, each suspension cable, track cable and all other elements can be replaced with little effort if necessary. An enormous saving of time and money! The use of a real steel cable also has its advantages in this context: At any time, it is possible to quickly record and assess the condition of the rope.
A place for the whole family
The Bürgerpark in Wiehl, also known as Wiehlpark, now offers not only several playgrounds and a café, but also a real adventure bridge. Visitors can spend the whole day in the park, enjoying nature and watching young and old discover the surroundings. The great thing is that children can play in the Wiehl and then cross the bridge barefoot to get to the other bank. They experience lots of movement along the way - with swinging, wobbling, balancing, climbing and hanging.
With this project, we were once again able to prove that customized and innovative solutions are possible when expertise and commitment come together. We are delighted that the Adventure Bridge in Wiehl has been an integral part of social park life since it opened.
Customer testimonial
"The town of Wiehl has relied on high quality in the area of playground equipment for many years. Huck Seiltechnik impresses with vandal-proof and visually appealing products as well as a reliable supply of spare parts. From the initial idea through to implementation, Huck Seiltechnik provided us with excellent advice and support.
One outstanding example is the rope bridge that connects the two banks of the Wiehl. Huck Seiltechnik mastered challenges such as stability, statics and flood safety as well as the integration into the construction process of the main project for the conversion of Wiehlpark in an exemplary manner. Communication was always smooth and changes to the planning were implemented in a solution-oriented manner.
On recommendation, I worked directly with Huck Seiltechnik for the first time. Despite initial concerns regarding the integration of the rope tunnel into the construction process, it quickly became apparent that Huck Seiltechnik is a strong and reliable partner.
The opening of the new Wiehlpark revealed the high level of acceptance of the rope tunnel among all age groups, making it an ideal experience for the whole family. Huck Seiltechnik was also immediately on hand to help us with any necessary improvements to the stairway and quickly implemented the rework.
Huck Seiltechnik has proven to be an extremely competent and reliable partner that always works in a solution-oriented manner and ensures that the project runs smoothly."
